San Francisco State University and the Neighborhood Empowerment Network are working to help San Franciscans use social media and online community-building for earthquake preparedness.

Our goal is to identify neighborhoods' different organizing strengths and challenges, and to work with community members to build stronger connections that will help neighbors help each other in times of emergency.

This is our organizing hub and resource center. Here you can find a workgroup or start one of your own. And don't forget to spread the word — this is a great opportunity for student volunteers who are into social media and want to make a difference!

Interesting Article about the future of science

Check it out here http://michaelnielsen.org/blog/?p=448

one choice quote.

"Science is an example par excellence of creative collaboration, yet scientific collaboration still takes place mainly via face-to-face meetings. With the exception of email, few of the new social tools have been broadly adopted by scientists, even though it is these tools which have the greatest potential to improve how science is done."

sounds familiar.

SEIMIC core 8/11

Alex demo'd the "new" Seismic site and it looks good and is functional. He has some design tweaking to do per Marie's course needs and paper prototype, but he will do that quickly and upload it to our server by end of this month. The site will be available for faculty/CSL use the first week of September.

It will initially be organized by:

CSL Course Workgroups Topic

and all content will need to be tagged (keyword/index). Marie's BECA class will write the tutorial for that.

Users will need to be authorized (by faculty?).
